  • Herbs for internal force

    Hello,

My internal force training is going very slowly (only lifting the sky, pushing mountains) and I want to try something from chinese herbal perspective to boost my progress...
There are many herbs that can boost internal force training.
I have found one recipe that can do it:

    1. Ginseng root korean a151
    2. Bai Zhu-Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae a36
    3. Dang Gui-Chinese Angelica a107
    4. Chuan Xiong a87
    5. Bai Ji Li (Tribulus Terrestris) ci ji li a90
    6. Bai Fu Ling-poria cocos-fu ling? a139
    7. Bai Shao Yao- Chinese Peony a27
    8. Di Huang- Rehmannia glutinosa a115
    9. Gan Cao-Glycyrrhiza uralensis a146
    10.Zhu Sha (Cinnabar) a575

Has anyone had experience with herbs relating internal force? Do really herbal medicine can boost internal force? Any comments...

I will try this formula and see what will happen.

Out of curiosity, what criteria have you set for your internal force training? How do you assess your internal force progress?

Taking those herbs without a prescription from a Chinese doctor is a recipe for disaster. Don't do it.

        Chiahua,

As I know how it feels to have internal force I can measure progress by watching my minds transquility and this "feeling" of internal force now and at the moment.
Sometimes I have this feeling less sometimes it is very strong. Very hard to explain.

        Antonius,

As my russian Taekwondo master said This herbal recipe were given for many students in Korea where my master lived. Many students had improvements in their training without side effects.

            Hi Germantas,
Based off of what was taught to me by a Chinese medical physician Korean Ginseng is extremely potent and shouldn't be taken too often. I don't know how much of it you are using in your formula, but I wouldn't recommend a daily dosage.
Both Koreans and Chinese have used herbal concoctions to increase internal force. It's considered part of the "External Alchemy" method.

            Best,

              Ray,

I am using about 3g of each component mixed into powder and with honey added. So the ginseng root is not of so large percentage in this mixture.

So to answer your original question, our school sees herbs as medicine, and an inferior method for bolstering health relative to qigong. The only time I've heard of herbs being used in the context of kung fu in our school is "diit da jow", or medicinal wine used topically. Herbs taken internally would only be a supplement only if truly needed for health.
In general, if we want to improve our internal force, we use qigong. The philosophy is that it holistically improves our internal force, not just relative to combat but to health, vitality, and happiness as well.

                Hope this helps,
                Chia-hua

                  Hello Germantas,

to me the question to ask to yourself would be:

                  - Why do I judge my progress in internal force so inferior?
                  Is it because ...
                  ... I am impatient?
                  a. Does this often happen, is it due to my character?
                  b. Why is this so? what did I feel about this as a child?
                  c. Is there anything in my mind forcing me to get strong without being patient to follow my bodys' capacities?

... my body functions need time to get more force ?
                  a. because I was lazy for too many years
                  b. because I was ill / had weak limbs because of an illness
                  c. because I ate unpropriate food for a long time
                  d. because you are already in a middle age ...

Questions to ask yourself because they concern your own body and mind. This is, to my opinion, more crucial then simply take medicine to strenghten yourself - even if these herbs you mentioned are a recipe of traditional Chinese medicine.

                  Be cheerful in your life,

When I want to increase my force, I just eat some Kung Pow Chicken, hai-yaw I find chi kung force feels different depending on the hour you practice. I might try herbs if they were prescribed by a Chinese doctor, my advice here is just to be careful and good luck.

In connection with another thread by Germantas, I'd like to briefly reiterate the dangers of taking Chinese herbs without a prescription. I'm not saying that these herbs are what caused Germantas' problem, but I want people to understand why it's such a bad idea to take herbs without a prescription.

For example, let's say that someone read this thread and thought, "Hey, I'd like to develop internal force...maybe I'll take those herbs too!" If that person had high blood pressure, then the formula above could cause problems.

Folks, get your Chinese medicine from a good doctor, and learn your chi kung and kung fu from a good master!

                        Sharing a Recipe

                        I know a good one:

If applied correctly, this recipe will enhance internal force.

                        Ingredients:
                        Relax, Relax, Relax (5kg-150kg)
Golden Bridge (depends on the Patient)

To apply for about 6 Months or more.
If complications occur - contact an instructor!
                        Engage and maintain joyful practice!

May all of you get the best benefits from what you do.

                            Germantas

I am a practicing Doctor of Oriental Medicine and a Shaolin Kung Fu and QiGong student.

I will address the herbal prescription first as it is the most dangerous aspect of your plan. The major issue with your herb formula is the addition of Cinnabar (Zhu Sha). This medicinal has been out of use for a very long time due to an extremely high mercury content. This medicinal can kill you if taken in significant dosages and for extended periods of time. It can also make you crazy. It was used in Chinese Herbal medicine to calm severe Shen disturbances not for simply creating a calm mind.

The rest of the formula will only benefit you if you have Qi and Blood Deficiency. If you do not have these diagnoses from a reliable Chinese Physician that you may actually experience harmful results or possibly just no results from your formula.
As a side note I would truly love to know where and how you managed to get Zhu Sha/Cinnabar - If you are in America you should know that it's use is illegal.

All that aside the main problem here is there is no history in Chinese Medicine of taking herbals to increase "internal force" as we know it from Shaolin training. You can tonify the Qi and Blood and Yin and Yang with herbal medicine and gain more vitality however it is a poor cousin to the incredible dimensions of Shaolin QiGong, KungFu and TaiQi Chuan. The first step is good diet, good sleep, healthy habits and mind, QiGong practice and finally if you are just dying for more - find a great Shaolin KungFu teacher and get a great boost!
You apparently do not realize just how lucky you are to have found these arts - I beg my patients to do QiGong so they won't need my herbs anymore!

Finally do not make the mistake that because herbs are "natural" that they do not have harmful effects. The Chinese are masters at using very toxic substances in small doses for specific time periods to achieve results in very difficult situations. Chinese Medicine is an Art just like the Shaolin arts and should be respected and learned or utilized only under the tutelage of a physician of this art.
