  • Chi Kung for anxiety and obsessive thoughts

    Hi guys,
well im new to hear and have had the unique experience of picking up the lovely art of Chi Kung from the Grandmaster and later Sije Joan. the Grandmaster is an inspiration for his teachings
i began my practice in mid febuary of this year and have been practicing twice daily since and am just looking to see if i can get some additional information from anyone with similar experiences. let me explain!
i would be a person who thinks a lot and can then get quiet anxious with moods that would swing from day to day. late last year i was going through a period of large amounts of thinking and stress levels which developed into obsessive thoughts which were very distressing and in turn this would have led to Depression. all this time my frame of mind was negative and quiet distressing, my mood low and my concentration completely overtaken by these disturbing thoughts, something i had never experienced before.so then it was time to take stock and the Anti-depressants were prescribed, but for me that wasn't enough and i new i could find a more natural way to get to the root of this. so i came accross Chi Kung and have been mistified with with its holistic approach, sometimes i find it to hard to believe and i suppose as is the nature of depressive thoughts, you can be a sceptic at times but at large i stick with my pratice and drive on. about a month after starting i was really improving then in the last week or so my symptoms have returned strongly and i have been quiet emotional during practice. my days are just getting occupied again with these thoughts although they dont destress me as much.so if anybody could maybe share some info with me on the above and the Following i would be so gratefull:
    • what are the most benificial patterns for clearing emotions or negative thoughts/depression or any other suggestions, is there a link to stagnant Chi in the Liver
    • is it normal to go through a healing crisis or what can i expect from here
    • i do a lot of cycling, has this any conflict with Chi Kung

thanks a mil guys and i look forward to talking to ye soon, great site, loads of good info

    Hi Aidan,

As you have learned chi kung from our wonderful grandmaster, and Sifu Joan as well, you are obviously blessed with good karma.

Depression is relatively simple for high level chi kung to release. My advice? You should of course continue your practice as taught to you (you really couldn't do better).

(re)experiencing the symptoms of depression as you progress is quite common. This is part of your journey back to health.

As for which pattern you should use, this would depend on which patterns you have been taught. Separating Water is excellent for depression, but Lifting the Sky is more than adequate should you not know this exercise so well.

    I hope this helps.

      Hi Aidan.

I'm in Malaysia at the moment, so I don't have much time. I recommend that you read my article "Depression Kills; Qigong Saves", which was recently published in Qi Journal. You can find the article on my website: www.zenergyarts.com

        hi aidan,

my sifu kai told me that when you practise chi kung your whole body cleans out all the dirt. so you might experience old things coming back up. but this is the process of clearing to get back your health and vitality. i am having the same problems. so just go on practising chi kung. i was skeptical for myself at first, but everything seems to get better and better in little steps. i just stay focused and on my way which is a great journey to me. and don´t forget you have many people around you, that love u and care for you. and of course what makes me think positiv is, that there is always somebody that has a harder way to go. i should be thankful to deal with my little problem compared to others

        so smile from the heart
