  • Prep Training for Sifu/Sigung's Visit - "3 Arrivals"

    Dear Shaolin Family and Friends,

Because Sifu/Sigung's visit to Canada is really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I have made arrangements to hold special "Prep Training Sessions" on a weekly basis till Sifu/Sigung's arrival in Canada (May 2007).

This is to honour and implement the Shaolin principle of the "3 Arrivals", and will enable participants to be ready not only in "body" but also in "heart" and "mind" for Sifu/Sigung's teachings.

For those of you who are interested to attend, please see below for the details.

If you are travelling in from another country to attend Sifu/Sigung's courses, please feel free to write to me and I would be pleased to email you some Tips on How to Prepare for a Course with Sifu/Sigung.

Please contact me directly at: shaolin@shaolinwahnamcanada.com or emiko.h@sympatico.ca for details on location, cost, time etc.

Let us each set ourselves up for success so that we can truly enjoy the priceless time with Sifu/Sigung in Canada!

    Best,

    Emiko

    Senior Members' Training

    Dear Shaolin Family and Friends,

For those of you who are flying in from overseas, you may be interested to read what our training session went like this evening. If you feel it appropriate to do so, you may wish to adjust your solo training to include some of the aspects outlined below.

    Senior Members' Training Content:

    a) Aims & Objectives:
Each member chose just one objective that he/she wanted to achieve between now and Sifu/Sigung's arrival in Canada.
Examples ranged from having a number of newly composed sequences to lengthening the time spent in one's Golden Bridge. All in all, it was interesting to note how different and unique each person's chosen objective was.

    b) Four Gates combat sequences & applications
Group members alternated partners and trained each segment of the combat sequences separately first. Each segment was practiced 4 times.
    1st time: for memory recall;
    2nd time: taiji speed;
    3rd time: normal speed w/ no power;
4th time: normal speed w/ 20-30% internal force.
After that, the 4 segments were put together and practiced 4 times.
Then each pair demonstrated the 4 sequences and received feedback from the other members re: timing, spacing, genuine efficacy of movements.

    c) Wahnam Taijiquan combat sequences & applications
The members who knew the first two sequences of the Basic 12 Taijiquan Sequences taught them to the others. Each sequence was practiced 3-4 times with each partner.

    d) Combat Sequence composition (two-person)
Members partnered up and composed new sequences together. Those who had specialised sets used movements from their sets. Those who did not have a specialised set used movements from the Four Gates set.
After time was spent composing sequences, each pair demonstrated their new sequence. The others gave feedback re: how authentic/not authentic the choice of moves was (i.e. combat efficient), what variations there were in timing and spacing.

    e) Chi Kung
The training ended with an enjoyable session of Shaolin Cosmos Chi Kung.

Note: The next training session is booked for April 14.

    Warmest wishes,

      Anyone Interested?

Tips on How to Prepare for a Course with Sifu/Sigung

      Dear Shaolin Family and Friends,

The thought has crossed my mind that perhaps there are people who, although they are not coming to Canada to take a course with Sifu/Sigung, might be interested to learn about Tips on How to Prepare for a Course with Sifu/Sigung.

This may prove useful for anyone who wishes to make best use of his/her learning opportunity with Sifu/Sigung.

I'd like to take a quick "show of hands" to see if such an interest exists, and if so, I will go ahead and draft up an article for everyone's general use.

I'd appreciate receiving an affirmative response from a total of at least 20 different people. This will give me the confirmation that there is enough interest for such a topic.

      And now, over to you!

      Best wishes,

Thank you Emiko Sije for this wonderful offer. I for one would be most interested.

The more I progress, the more I realize how I can progress not only faster but also more smoothly when implement the 3 arrivals. In this case it is arriving at Sifu's courses fully prepared. I discovered many new ways to do so, and strongly encourage everyone not to miss that opportunity - this promises to be priceless Shen training.

                Dear Emiko Sije

Thank you very much for your generous offer, and also for posting this thread, which has already been very instructive.

Like my brother Maxime, I've also been thinking about this subject recently, as I'm planning to attend the weapons course at Summer Camp, which I most definitely consider a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I've realised there are ways to integrate my preparation for this course with my overall aims and objectives but its still a daunting (while very exciting!) prospect. So any help you can offer will be most gratefully accepted here.

Hubert - I'm glad you said 'this promises to be priceless Shen training', as improving my Shen just happens to be one of my preparation objectives!

                Thanks again and warm regards

                Fleur

                  Dear Emiko-san Sijie,

Please accept my support, too, for your generous offer. It is an excellent way for maintaining the internal-remote contact with Sifu and Senior sisters and brothers.

It's nice to see that everyone's taking this opportunity offered by Sije Emiko. I've found that the benefits are significantly more if one prepares for Sifu's course. The benefits are not just for oneself, but they are for everyone attending the course.

If you should be passing by in Toronto for the course this May, I look forward to seeing you then!

                            Yours truly,

Thank you very much Emiko Sijie,

Although this would have been this more useful if I've had the opportunity of meeting your generous offer before attending Sifu's course, I think I can still benefit from it.

From direct experience I can tell that I did not make best use of Sifu's course as compared with the other participants, who had experience before (not newbies like me).

So, anyone thinking of attending one of Sifu's course in the future, take this opportunity!

                              Best regards,
                              Bernardo.
