  • What benefits do YOU get/want?

    Hello everyone,

As a professional teacher of Shaolin Comos Chi Kung I'd like to ask you for your help. I'd like to ask you a question and if you have the time a simple one sentence answer would be of great benefit to me. You see I think I know what benefits people get (or want) from practicing Shaolin Chi Kung, but I realise that assumptions can be dangerous things.

I'd love to get 100 replies to this question (I'll ask it in a minute), so if you can think of anyone who can contribute, please ask them to. The results will help me to improve my teaching skills.

    Here's my question:

If you practice Shaolin Chi Kung - What benefits do you get from your practice?

    Or,

If you don't practice Shaolin Chi Kung - What benefits do you want from a Chi Kung practice?

Thank you in advance for your time and for your help.

    Kind regards
    Marcus

          Dear Sihing,

among many other benefits, I wish to comment that the practice of Shaolin Cosmos Qigong has naturally brought to light the root of many deep problems --which have been an hindrance for the most part of my life.

I have discovered many bad habits and understood intuitively some of the mechanism which have been to the root of some blockages.

I now can see among others some of these blockages, understand better their mechanism, hence reducing the anger and resentment I would have felt toward them before.

          Best,

          Maxime

For mistunderstanding I would like to add that for a beginner like me these effects and/or feelings are not 100%, offcourse, just noticable changes in these effects and/or feelings.
Sometimes i don't express myself like i should, sorry

            Hope that helps,
            Tim

Marcus, it's hard to answer that question simply, because the benefits are so wide-ranging and in some areas so subtle. But in order of obviousness, though not necessarily importance, the benefits I get are:

Greater energy and freshness - the lack of the frequent tiredness and run-down-ness that clouded many of my days
              Much less illness
              Greater stamina
A stronger spiritual connection to all that is - a tangible connection
              More confidence and hope
Stronger love and concern for other people
More sense of autonomy, of being able to achieve the things I want to
Better able to handle bad things
              More clarity

That'll probably do for now. But the benefits certainly don't stop there, in fact that list is inadequate, but it shows the most tangible benefits.

I don't practice Shaolin Chi Kung, but I do practice Chi Kung. Although I obtain many benefits from my Chi Kung practice, the one I consider most important and most valuable is unconditional (except for the condition that I practice Chi Kung) health.

                    Benefits

I hope you don't mind if I answer this in a roundabout way. My reasons for starting to practise were health-related. My family has a history of high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and related heart problems relatively early in life - my father and his siblings all died of heart problems in their early 60s. Before I started Chi Kung I ran at BP of /98+ resting (at an age of 40, relatively fit, and not overweight), and had blood cholesterol of 7.7. Bad precursors to numerous health issues.

Happily these are no longer a problem. The BP now runs consistently at /75, and blood cholesterol is down to c5. So, on the health front, I've achieved the objectives.

The bonus outcomes are the ones already mentioned by others - calm mind, ability to focus, spiritual direction.

So, I continue to practise so that I don't lose the gains already made; and, hopefully, to reach that 60+ mark in good shape - physically, mentally, spiritually.

I'm a bit surprised at the vague, general statements here. They are wonderful, of course. Freedom. An open spirit. Etc. But don't you have more concrete, tangible answers? For example:

Practicing Shaolin Cosmos Qigong has drastically changed my life for the better: It cured me of a debilitating case of clinical depression, ended my daily low back pain, helped me to quit smoking, and gave me a practical way to nurture my spirituality. At age 34, most of my friends are starting to complain about getting older, but I feel younger every day.

More energy (what does this mean to me?) ---> Being able to have more satisfaction in my business and personal life. Getting more work done each day towards building the life of my dreams, and still having energy left over to enjoy the life of my dreams that I've already created

Greater appreciation for life ---> Being able to enjoy the beautiful moments that I didn't even notice before. More happiness. Less stress because I can put things into a larger perspective. The expansion of my spirit and joy I feel. I've gone through some severe bouts of depression, and the joy chi kung has helped me uncover is truly priceless.

Tapping into the inspiration of the universe ---> I've become a better writer, by learning to let go and let my ideas flow instead of clinging to them. This has made my business life much less stressful for one, and has allowed me to help my clients better and build a more successful business for myself.

Mental clarity (this is my favorite) ---> This goes hand in hand with inner peace I think. Because I can see around problems so much easier, and remove the weight they used to put on my soul. I can put myself closer to that place of joy more often, more easily. I can overcome obstacles faster, and spend more time enjoying life. I work more efficiently. Can see who I really am better. And can understand others more easily, and enjoy the love.

Freedom of expression ---> I've always struggled with shyness and anxiety when it came to expressing myself. Chi kung has helped me better realize who I am, and be confident in who I am and what I believe in. I think as a result of that, it's become much easier to open up to others. I've also gained a wonderful perspective on the purpose and joy in sharing with others who we truly are. As well as being at peace with other people's beliefs even if they aren't in line with mine.

Spiritual exploration ---> Becoming aware of a truth and experience greater than myself. Learning to see the perfection in our existence. Having a "tool" to explore spiritual philosophies directly--is amazing.

                              I'm sure there's more
