Hi all,
I have just returned from the first local Shaolin Wahnam Kungfu course!
First off, I would like to thank Sifu Joan for once again making all the various arrangements that made this possible and also to Jamie! who was kind enought to fly all the way from Scotland to teach a set of misfits like us
.
I have longed to learn real kungfu for many years and at last I have been provided with the opportunity!
The course was held over two weekends with a nice meal each day. Saturday was a lovely country restaurant (lovely waitresses
) and on the Sunday, a fantastic Chinese restaurant.
(And in-between those two, a sample of the local nightlife
)
The training provided by Jamie was fantastic. There was plenty there to provide a challenge but at no point did I feel I was in over my head (except when I was being used for demonstration
). Having done some chi-kung with Sifu Joan came in handy with the force training, and I noticed a massive increase in the amount of chi flowing through my body. In mid-force training I felt really tall, sort of bigger.
Relaxing and enjoying my practice sounded like an obvious thing to do but it really does make a difference. And discovering the pitfalls of incorrect form was just as useful to me as learning the uses of correct form.
I'm starting to babble so here are the highlights for me:-
*) Breakfast in the B&B watching the sunrise (and Enya music in the background).
*) Observing the great number of possibilities that one move can offer.
*) The waitresses.
*) Learning dinner etiquette in the Chinese restaurant.
*) Gregg (he doesn't know this) releasing my grip and and activating the compass mode on my watch that I have for so long had trouble working - now THAT is high-level kungfu.
*) The waitresses.
*) Seeing snow on the mountains around the lake at Killarney (video doesn't do it justice!)
*) Mark's trousers on day one.
*) Being one half of the '1940's American Fighter Pilot and Russian Spy' sat in the corner of the pub.
*) Learning the eight attack and defence patterns.
*) Clearing on the journey home and feeling the chi flow through my legs after practice.
*) The waitresses.
Time for bed, work at seven.
I can't wait to see what the January session will hold or for the pictures to be uploaded on Sifu Joan's website showing my flawless form and prowess in general.
WSS Peter.
