  • questions on christ and chi.

christ, wisdom, understanding, buddha, enlightenment; do they all convey the same concept through the divisions of language? sinners, gentiles, ignorant... are they not the same? is recieving the holy spirit the same as instant enlightenment? does being filled with the strength of the lord in-fact relate to being filled with chi? do not east and west compliment one another? same truth, different perspectives. what do you think?

    same truth...

Perhaps Uki, but the perspective matters I think.

Looking at the mountain from different sides, different routes will be seen. They may all be aiming at the mountain top but you can't take the instructions for one route and use them on another. Doing so may lead you to the cliff edge

Of course, most of the mountaineering techniques used on the different routes will be similar.

Different people will have their own favoured mountainside too, and of course the mountain top will appear different from different angles (unless you've reached the top!).

I think I've now exhausted this extended metaphor!

That's a great explanation, Clive, thank you.
(Personally, I believe very strongly in extending metaphors!)

Of course once you reach the top of a mountain, you may see many other routes that might have been quicker...

But you wouldnt swap then would you !

Really though, i mostly agree with you Uki, but we must be carfull not to lump everything in the same pot. Maybe there are more than one or two elements that are really quite different. Very Different even. Although links may exist...

              Hi great question,

I found out some very interesting things about this question in a book called; the inner path of the warrior, which is written by an anonymous teacher of our schools founder. You can order it here ( I also recommend Beyond the mysterious gate)

In it he was relaying how Life energy work (chi Kung, meditation) has been found in all cultures, and 'isms' were created when people began 'mapping' their discoveries.

Uki, you ask in the first post on this thread if all of those things (Christ, wisdom, etc. etc.) are the same. I'm guessing alot would depend on who you're asking.
There are those who think that every religion and spiritual system/path mean the same thing, and aspire to the same goal..but use different terms, methods, practices to get there. They would tell you that an ancient buddhist monk and a Catholic saint in prayer/meditation were, ultimately, thinking of and aspiring to the same goal.
On the other hand, there are those who see the definite differences between the major religions and spiritual systems. And while they would never speak badly of or insult another religion or it's practioners, and may even be friends with those of other faiths, they would never say that all religions are equal, and possibly even defend theirs as being the one, true religion/faith.

I'd say the popular, growing trend of the current times is {"Do your own thing-let him do (believe) his thing, I'll do (believe) mine..As long as I think and feel like I'm doing the right thing, then I'm ok..But even if you strictly oppose what someone else does/thinks, don't say anything too harsh (or at all), because that's his right-it wouldn't be politically correct to speak up"}.
Potentially leaves the world on the track to a free-for-all, anything goes.
Guess we'll have to just wait and see.

                        Out of my humble experience:
Letting go and enjoying a Chi flow is the same as letting the grace of God flowing through you.

                        Respectfully,

I don't know if it's necessarily political correctness? But maybe more just human nature. If someone has a strong belief in something, and you blatantly criticize it, the natural reaction is for them to instantly want to defend themselves. And as a result, close themselves off to anything you have to say...even if it does make sense.

I think having respect and compassion toward people, even if you are strongly against their beliefs or actions, will give you a better chance of convincing them that what they are doing is wrong. Approaching those situations with an open heart, and trying to understand each other, is much better than just criticizing. And might actually lead to a positive outcome.

On the other hand, I think you do have to just let things be in a lot of cases. Which is ok, if they're just as much a part of god as you are
