  • Excellent Muay Thai Movie !

    Hey everyone ,

I just watched an incredible martial arts movie . It is called 'Ong Bak' and it is starring Tony Jaa ( Muay Thai Style ) .

Has anyone else seen this movie ? I think it's about one year old .

Ong Bak definitely has some of the coolest fight scenes and stunts I have seen in a MA film . Tony Jaa is a very talented person .

    Best Wishes ,
    Kevin

Yes, that's definitely a fun movie to watch. I just bought a copy on DVD I liked it so much. Tony Jaa does all his own stunts. No fake wires or anything. Very good.

Ong Bak is pretty sweet. I saw it on the big screen, which completely ruled.
When I saw it, I was thinking that the fight coordination isn't as sophisticated as... say a Jet Li movie, but has the sort of raw intensity of Bruce Lee's stuff. The acrobatics sorta reminded me of Jackie Chan though. Awesome stuff. I just wanna know what it was that he chews up and spits on his arms. That and the guy shoving a handful of hypodermic needles into his chest is straight ridiculous.

Agreed Sunyata. I like that scene where he runs across the top of a bunch of peoples' heads. Amazing.

If you liked Ong Bak, just wait till you see Tom Yum Goong.

            quick lesson in American Slang

There's an expression in American Slang, it is "off the chain". It's an expression used when something is unspeakably cool, sweet, or awesome. Possibly all three. I would say that Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong are both... "off the chain".

                      Hi all,
Yes, is a very funny film with amazing muay thai techniques and skills, 2 months ago Tony Jaa was in Barcelona for a performance and introducing his new movie, infortunately I couldn´t attend, it would have been great to see it in person, si if someone here has seen it him in person, it will be very amusing to see the opinions.

One of my favourite movies, check out his impromptu displays on the DVD. I heard off a friend his next movie is even better.

Just watched it today (Ong Bak) and it was quite impressive. The plot was a little thin but the action was superb. I think I need to do a little more stance training before I can spar with one of those guys.

Is this what Muai Thai is supposed to look like, or is it as close to it as Kungfu movies are to Kungfu?

                            Dear friends,
From my inquiries it is important to note that Tony Jaa uses not just Muai Thai in Ong Bak, some of the moves that he performs as far as I know are outside of the Muai Thai body of techniques. However my favorite scene: the bar fight where he moves in and out of various stances is where I am not sure if he is actually doing Muai Thai or something else. Can anyone clarify?

                            Best,

The way I am led to believe (and please correct me if Im wrong). Is that Tony Jaa learnt traditional Muay Thai, i think it had a different name. And it would not suprise me if a lot of the moves that looked like they were incoporated are actually Traditional Muay Thai. Remember, like many other Martial Arts Muay Thai is already gettting "watered down", it has become primely a sport now. As I mentioned. Please correct me if I have been misinformed.
