In light of George's thread on his experiences of his first Intensive Kung Fu course, I would like to start a discussion on how you can prepare for such a course.
First of all, Sifu very generously shares a video preview of what material is covered on the course, the first part can be viewed here. Sifu also provides 3 other parts describing and showing what you can acheive in a few days what many martial arts practitioners may never experience, or reach the depths of in decades of training. It is important to note, that after the course, what you have practiced, you have to continue practicing for a reasonable amount of time for you to become effective with the method. You don't turn into a master over night having attended an Intensive course
I am simply amazed at how much information on Sifu's webpages are available so freely to the public. When I first went for my Intensive course with Sifu in Malaysia, there wasn't such material available on the internet, how times have changed with Sifu's website
I'm quite interested particularly in Georges experiences in his thread I linked above. George has already been training in the UK with the UK instructors. He has already practiced moving in stances, chi kung and basic patterns of hand attack and defence. Yet he is attending a course with Sifu and doing the same thing.
"Much deeper level of practice" is how George describes his experience. This doesn't mean to say that George was training poorly back home in the UK. I believe because of his prior training in the UK, George was able to go deeper in his training on the Intensive course and reap much more benefits.
Despite after a intense day training, George still has the energy to write an excellent post, but is able to wake up early and fresh in the morning to wish his girlfriend goodnight. While he is miles away training, he is still able to care for others. Also because of his earlier training in the UK he has already developed some extra energy to carry him through, which he's going to need
Recently the 3 Nations gathering which took place in Brighton this January, focussed on basic skills like moving in stances as well as several other important skills and techniques. You can read some feedback from students, including Georges, in this discussion thread. If you missed this event, don't worry, there will be one next year.
Also, in the UK we have the Summer Camp coming up, which again covers a broad aspect of Kung Fu training, and is taught by Sifu who will be coming over especially.
Its nice to have a dream of going to Malaysia, but if you can't make it happen just yet, try looking for a Shaolin Wahnam instructor near you. We will give you an excellent start in genuine Shaolin Arts whether you want to prepare for Malaysia or not.
