  • Fire bird

I had a very cool experience during chi kung quite recently. I 'turned into' a huge fire bird, that soared above my little body and flapped about with giant fire wings. it was incredibly releasing and felt brilliant, like my real self was showing itself and flying high. it was also quite scary in a way, because i felt very humble afterwards, humble enough to hug my knees on the floor and cry with gratitude. it was so beautiful

i am just wondering if there are any myths, or symbols that correlate to this fire bird thing?, i am just wondering what it could be, or represents?, or if it is a common thing for chi kung practice, it was very cool anyway, i thought i'd share it, it was very thrilling and radical, like breaking free of all restraints. I managed to 'forget' i had a body, it was brilliant. Or my body was there, but i wasn't stuck in it any longer, i was able to roar and fly with fire wings. !!!

    peace my friends,

Sounds like a wonderful experience. Rather than try to explain it, I'd (in your position) be thankful to have had it and move on.

yeah, i'm not bothered about it so much, i drew a picture of it, i was just wondering if their is any common symbolism with it,; trying to learn new information about what it represents.

you know how dreams have hidden meanings, or your conciousness is trying to tell you smoething, i was just wondering what this was trying to tellme. any ideas?

pardon me while i burn, and rise above the flames

        That sounds really awesome.

I have related my struggles from time to time with the myth of the Phoenix. That the suffering I experience is like fire burning away the causes of my suffering, to uncover a more beautiful and happy person underneath. And that I will eventually rise above those flames just like the Phoenix.

Here's a summary of the legend from answers.com...

"According to legend, the phoenix lived in Arabia; when it reached the end of its life (500 years), it burned itself on a pyre of flames, and from the ashes a new phoenix arose. As a sacred symbol in Egyptian religion, the phoenix represented the sun, which dies each night and rises again each morning. According to Herodotus the bird was red and golden and resembled an eagle."

        I'm floating down a river
Oars freed from their holes long ago
Lying face up on the floor of my vessel
        I marvel at the stars
        And feel my heart overflow

Feeling like a bird or like you can fly etc is a common Qigong feeling. Also, feeling very warm or like you can visualize gold suns.
"The nine energies are necessary for immortality, but they are not something for any person to be allowed to come in contact with or hear about. The populus common, in their unending worry, their concern is only with riches and honors. They may well be called walking corpses." - Ge Hong

              A Phoenix!

What a beautiful experience! Are you of celtic descent? If so, our celtic ancestors new much of visionary experiences like yours. I am sure that there are tales of the phoenix in old celtic mythology. Check out an author called John Matthews, he wrote many books on that sort of stuff. God bless and good luck from a fellow tiger (july 17 1986).
