  • Chi Kung Dentistry

I have a couple of questions regarding chi kung and teeth/dentistry.

I know that Sifu says a high level chi kung practitioner can eat and drink products containing sugar, for example cola, tea/coffee with sugar, cake, ice cream etc and that consuming this sugar will not cause him to develop diabetes or obesity.

My question is, would the sugar still be harmful to his teeth, or does chi kung have a beneficial effect on teeth also?

I think I can guess at the answer as Sifu says he eats any of these things when he wishes, yet I assume his teeth are in very good condition as he certainly has a sparkling smile!

    Next question:
Some people can supposedly have dental work done without anaesthetic, pain-free, by using self hypnosis.

Would a chi kung or kung fu master also be able to do this - to use his mind powers to block out pain (assuming he would ever need to - lets pretend he ruined his teeth before becoming a master!)

P.S. Have you guessed I'm due for a dental appointment soon!
I'm going to pretend that I'm a martial arts expert, but promise the dentist I won't hurt him as long as he doesn't hurt me!

Sorry I am short of time so my post won't be elaborate, but, as a quick answer:

I believe what Sifu says is that practicing Chi Kung helps maintaining good balance regarding the 'good energy', the one responsible for fighting against Xie Qi (evil energy). I mean if one practices Chi Kung, one can enhance its self-defense system, this strentghening of proper body energy allows the body to be more resistant even to an increase in eating and drinking ... sugar, ice cream, cola, etc... In others words, a sufficient quantity of Chi and its proper circulation will enhance the inner factors responsible for eliminating the 'trash' and 'garbage' of the body (sorry, I told you this post won't be elaborate! ).

I think the GOLDEN RULE right there is MODERATION. I don't think Sifu means you can eat 5 kilos of sugar per day and drink 10 bottles of wine!

Chi Kung has an effect on Energy. Your whole body is energy, so are the teeth. So, in theory, yes, Chi Kung has an effect on the teeth.

My answer is ... yes and no, or ...both. The sugar will be more harmful to your teeth if you don't practice and/or eat too much sugar (the Golden Rule: MODERATION). On the other hand, Chi Kung will never do any harm to your teeth (supposing your practice is correct).

      Best regards,

      Maxime

        Dear all,
First off; very nice comment chère frère Maxime!

I think the GOLDEN RULE right there is MODERATION
I think that the main point Maxime would like to share with us. There is nothing more to say on this. The moderation depends on various factors, as we all know.
Each situation has to be considered by its own.

Just a litte example, which may not be directly hit the topic from my own experience:
I really like beer and good wine. I am just a Swiss with Italian roots

And so far, through my training I could enjoy it much more than ever. Nevertheless, I decided recenly to avoid alcohol for some time.
Why? I felt like I came to a point where I could benefit much more from my training without. My situation, cause of my training developement has changed. I feel like that I have come to the point where I can develope my Shen aspect much more when refusing drinking alcohol. Not to mention, that now my Chi can put his focus on my blockages, rather than also clear the toxins out.
But what has changed is that I unconsciously eat more sugar. Not exessively mor, but noticably more.

Again Moderation is the key. And since I have learnt to follow my Chi, it is not much more.

A high level practicioner is not only able to eat what he likes, he's also always doing what is best for him. Always considered on which level he is.

Sugar may bring harm of the teeth of some more that to others. As probabely a High level Chi Kung practicioner also can drink more alkohol, without any noticable effect on Shen Chi and Jing.
I remeber Sifu telling me, that a Master even in a ripe old age has still his own teeth, in a extraordinry good condition. And if we face the fact, that some hundret years ago, they didn't have the same possibilities to clean them, it`s worth mentioning that.

Would a chi kung or kung fu master also be able to do this - to use his mind powers to block out pain (assuming he would ever need to - lets pretend he ruined his teeth before becoming a master!)
Yes, I believe he could, if he would ever need. I think I have read in a thread that a student was able to stay calm and relaxed while he needed a treatment, and that he had much less pain and fear.
So, I am sure a Master could get a treatment without any anestethic and still would have no pain.

        Warmest regards,

        Roland

          Self hypnosis

I have completed a couple of hypnotherapy courses, and used self hypnosis whilst having a "scrape and polish". I told myself that everytime my tooth or gum was touched, they'd get number and number. Unfortunately every time I was jabbed in a nerve I realised they weren't!

I have seen somebody having a needle passed through her skin, whilst under hypnosis, without being in discomfort (although I nearly passed out), and on video, have seen somebody having varicose veins removed without anaesthetic (Noesi therapy), so it certainly can be used.

            chi kung and reality

            drunken boxer,

Though it is all in the mind, the teeth will suffer. People hands pain different so it is individual physiology that will determine pain nocioception (perception-real or not).

I can swear some will say the opposite but they are your teeth. Take care of them the best way possible.
Sugar is harmful to everyone's teeth and no one is immune.

Yes I agree fully on that. Not even a Chi Kung practitioner knows, that prevention is better and easier than getting a problem cleaned up.
A Chi Kung practitioner would never put him unnecessary into a pontential danger. Safety firts...a basic but profound Kung Fu principle.

              Regards,
