  • Muay Thai and Internal Force?

    Hello everyone,

Its been a while since I've been on the forum. I've recently taken up Muay Thai and I really like it. I was wondering if its possible to use internal energy in an art thats considered external?

    Thanks,
    Fergal

    Hi Fergal,

If you have internal force its possible to use it in many ways, and it would benefit you in Muay Thai certainly.

However you wont get internal force from practicing Muay Thai.

And Muay Thai wont make the best use of the internal force you have.

      Methodologies

      Hi Fergal,

Internal arts take time to develop, external arts are far far quicker to develop. If you wished to practice Muay Thai as an internal art, you can expect many many beating along the way. As Paschal noted, the situation can be reversed later on once you have sufficient Internal Force but this is likely to be at least two years, maybe longer. If you train in a good internal school or seek out a reputable Master, then you can cut the time down considerably.

Practicing Chi Kung at the same time as learning Muay Thai would still be beneficial, but your practice would not be optimum due to the different methodologies. You would still get the benefits although it would take longer.
