  • Noisy/energetic chi flows

I read the recent debate with interest. When I did the intensive course in Limerick I found the noisy flows of several of the people very disconcerting. It make it difficult to relax and get into my own flow, as I was always aware of them, and had to keep my eyes open to avoid being bumped into.

When I again trained with the Wahnam Institute in Tralee, I found it easier to cope with the noisier chi flows around me, as I am more used to the Wahnam forms, and able to get into the flows more quickly.

I am still however am not convinced that it is necessary to be noisy and stomp about each time you do a flow.

Chi kung is an internal art. Isn't running around and shouting external?

    Your comments could be interesting!

Obviously if you are releasing energy blockages you may be "moved" to run about - roar like a tiger, walk like a bear, make faces like a monkey etc, but every time?

    Hi Phil,

Running around and shouting are external manifestations of internal chi flowing induced by external forms or patterns, and internal breathing and mind focus as is the case with The Eight Brocades and Eighteen Lohan hands. Sinew Metamorphosis is all very much internal Chi Kung, but again if doing induced chi flow, the flow of chi will cause external manifestations of movement in some people.

It depends on the blockages. You are not clearing blockages a week old, most people have years of blockages, some even have blockages from past lives, so you cannot expect these to be cleared in just a few sessions. Most people's chi flows change from time to time, depending on how quickly the blockages are being cleared.

If you remember in Tralee, you were doing very nice martial art type movements and moved about quite a bit.! You 'let go' more because you were more relaxed.

Usually when (if ever) people bump into each other during a chi flow, they just smile and carry on. It is usual for people to run around a hall without ever bumping into a person, because their senses are sharper. I remember Sifu telling me of a person, I think in Spain at a regional course, who ran around the hall, in through and around people without ever touching anyone and she had her eyes closed throughout the chi flow.! It was amazing!

    Smile from the Heart,
    Joan.

      Thanks Joan,

Ironically I had an extremely vigorous chi flow yesterday! I am feeling extremely frustrated at the moment as I have been ill for 4 weeks, and unable to do much more than hobble around, even with pain killers, so it was a relief to do a vigorous flow, and get rid of my frustration for a while.

I do recall my " martial arts" flow in Tralee. Oops. My selective memory at work.

It's all relative. A complete beginner might say "I'm not convinced that it is necessary to sway gently each time you do a Qi flow." Of course, he would be wrong.

Phil, you're not a beginner, but a noisy, stomping, screeching Qi flow still seems strange to you. Maybe you prefer to sway gently (which, of course, is fine). However, remember that, to a complete beginner, even your gentle swaying would seem strange.

It's all relative, but in the end, you and the complete beginner are both limited (in different ways) by your mental resistance.

Generally speaking, if you (not just you, Phil) are distracted or worried or skeptical or frustrated by what others are doing in their Qi flow, it’s YOUR problem, not theirs. Chances are, they are feeling free and letting go completely and enjoying their flow and not the least bit concerned with you. Meanwhile, you are the one stuck with a mental blockage.

Energy gets caught and trapped and locked in the body in complex ways. When this energy starts to get released, it manifests externally in all kinds of weird ways. I can't even describe some of the stuff I've seen. Some people sway gently. Some people get noisy. Some people run around the room like a monkey.

        And then there's Darryl...

Its a very good point too. I have quiet flows, I have noisy flows, I have really active flows and I enjoy them all. I've never had an experienced practitioner come up to me afterwards and complain - if anything they are also grinning and laughing about my actions.

Neither am I. Thats why I just relax and go wherever I go. I dont guide my flow, I just enjoy it.

Thanks for the responses! They were interesting.

Yes. I do have a "blockage" when it comes to letting go in public.

I hadn't really thought about it in these terms until after I wrote the post, and then reading Antonius's comment, "Generally speaking, if you (not just you, Phil) are distracted or worried or skeptical or frustrated by what others are doing in their Qi flow, it’s YOUR problem, not theirs," really struck a chord . How dare they be so extroverted when I am so introverted!

I do have energetic flows. It's just that they seem normal to me, and not energetic.

                PhilH:

I am not a Shaolin Wahnam instructor (or even an instructor for that matter), but I can relate to you. Maybe my input might help you in some way...

I am also an introvert, thus I can be quite distracted easily by noise, especially human noise. Don't you just hate them???

Anyway, I find that Stance Training helps me alot in ignoring all of these human noises since it helps me to focus my mind on something else (I.e Dantian).

Now, I don't care about my neighbour with his stereo or people talking or kids playing. I can be totally relax, let go and enjoy my chikung training.

You might want to give it a shot...

                      Quatro Bajina-

                      ok.

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy takes out his phone and calls the emergency services.

He gasps: "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says: "Calm down, I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a gunshot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says: "OK, now what?"

And that is officially the world's funniest joke.

LONDON, England -- The world's funniest joke has been revealed after a year-long search by scientists.

Ah, the English sense of humour.

The English have a sense of humour?

Mind you, any nation that includes 'Cheese Rolling' as a traditional festival must have some idea.
