Upcoming 'Hoong Ka Triple Stretch' course, @ U.K. Summer Camp
This is very interesting in regards to the development of Shaolin sets.
There is a reason for every movement and every series of movements, within a Shaolin set.
The listing of the 108 patterns below (not yet shown-Robin) is therefore arbitrary. Sometimes a series of patterns is counted as only one pattern, and sometimes as the number of patterns the series contains. Sometimes repeated patterns are counted, and sometimes they are not. Many patterns, including some important ones, are not listed.
The set is systematically arranged. It consists of three sections, with the first section on 'ta chong' or developing internal force on stance, the middle section on 'lin chip' or connection, and the last section on 'ta sei moon' or practicing combat sequences four times in four directions. Each section consists of 36 patterns.
-Sifu
The picture below nicely demonstrates some of the skills in the set. taming and then striking!
This is great Robin, the first section developing force, the second connection and the third combat sequences.
Lin Chip sounds interesting, it is described as connection and not bridging or taming. Is the description arbitrary or is Lin Chip another way of finding your way to victory once a connection has been made?
"Then how could chi kung overcome diseases where the cause is unknown or when there is no cure? The question is actually incorrect. The expressions "the cause is unknown" and "there is no cure" are applicable only in the Western medical paradigm. The expressions no longer hold true in the chi kung paradigm. In the chi kung paradigm the cause is known, and there is a cure."
Below is a link to a pictures series of all the patterns in the Triple Stretch set! with names included.
As you know I have been releasing info connected to the pictures in the past few days. Below I've repeated past info and included the last paragraph which for me is incredibly important. Sifu talks about the Triple Stretch being the 'apex of set development':D
Hope you enjoy it.
p.s. next week will be video clips!!
In Uncle Righteousness school, the Triple Stretch Set is usually, and colloquially, refered to as Hundred and Eight. This is because Shaolin sets are often classified into three types according to the length of the set measured in the number of patterns, namely Thirty Six, Seventy Two and Hundred and Eight.
There are actually more than 108 patterns in the Triple Stretch Set, though it is called Hundred and Eight. Actually there are about 236 patterns. It is probably the longest set in the repertoire of our school, and one of the most demanding to perform.
The listing of the 108 patterns below is therefore arbitrary. Sometimes a series of patterns is counted as only one pattern, and sometimes as the number of patterns the series contains. Sometimes repeated patterns are counted, and sometimes they are not. Many patterns, including some important ones, are not listed.
The set is systematically arranged. It consists of three section, with the first section on ta chong or developing internal force on stance, the middle section on lin chip or connection, and the last section on ta sei moon or practicing combat sequences four times in four directions. Each section consists of 36 patterns.
The Triple Stretch Set, therefore, represents the apex of set development. It provides training for all important aspect of combat. First it provides a practitioner with internal force, next it provides useful techniques for the practitioner to connect with an opponent or made adjustment if necessary, and then it provides repeated practice in combat sequences for him to defeat his opponent. Not many kungfu sets have such comprehensive considerations.
pps. Sorry Tim, I'm not a 100% on the use of Lin Chip yet. But I have much more information to release and with a bit of research I should be able to find out.
Sifu is on a roll as he releases a lot of secrets in the form of special and rare sets and their associated skills. We shouldn't assume the Sifu will keep offering these courses so I hope as many people as possible will join us in Brighton.
I'm really enjoying practicing the Iron Wire, Taming the Tiger and Siu Lim Tou sets and amazing myself as my skills are developing rather dramatically. I know that this upcoming course will be challenging but Sifu always helps us get through it successfully. So....let's do it again.
Also, Sifu's teaching skills keep improving (which is hard to fathom how they can get even better) even in his regularly offered Chi Kung courses. I'm so glad that I've been able to take courses that I've taken many times before and still get something special from them. I credit a lot of my development over the years to the boosts that I get from attending courses that I've already taken previously. Give yourself a gift and enjoy the benefits of a refresher course. There is no way you'll regret it.

Uncle Righteousness probably derived his typical fighting tactic, Single Tiger and Black Tiger, from this set. This simple yet profound fighting tactic made Uncle Righteousness a formidable fighter. You will have a chance to learn the profundity of this simple tactic at the course.-Sifu
Ok guys,
I’ve started this post with a little ‘gem’ and this is how it’s going to continue from now on, and at a furious pace too!
What we have to come-
This week I will begin to post the first of two performances of the ‘Hoong Ka Triple Stretch’ Set by Sifu. At the same time I will also post two essays that Sifu very kindly sent to me on the topic of the ‘Triple Stretch’ set, internal force, traditional Kung Fu training methods, Sifu’s Kung Fu enlightenments over the years and also high level Kung Fu in general!
You will not want to miss it!!
I have two versions of this form that Sifu has kindly given to me to share exclusively here on this thread first. One is filmed outside in a garden, and the other is filmed in the woods.
It should be noted that there are some minor mistakes in the first video series ‘outside in the garden’, but Sifu liked the performance and said it still serves the purpose very well of getting a good idea of the set and it’s characteristics.
Below I have also stated the first of two short and excellent Triple Stretch/ High level Kung Fu essays Sifu sent me.
I have some more interesting and illuminating material about the Triple-Stretch Set.
I have been thinking of the force training methods of past kungfu masters. Uncle Righteousness was very powerful. My siheng, Wong Choy Wah, who specialized in the Triple-Stretch Set and who the grandmaster of Chin Wah Hoong Ka Kungfu Academy named after my sifu, was also very powerful. During a public kungfu demonstration of a staff set, which I witnessed, his internal force was so powerful that it broke the staff while he was performing the set. It was not an ordinary staff. The staff was hard, heavy and solid, like those you saw at Soon Tuck Wooi Koon where we visited some time ago.-Sifu
