          Thank You

Dear Anthony Sisook, Dear Markus Sisook,

I started learning the Iron Wire set earlier at the form level. I have not learned any new forms for a couple of years and its funny how difficult it is to learn the set at the form level after a few years of practice. The chi kung state of mind naturally just kicks in and the chi starts flowing when kung fu movements are performed . I find it strange to keep reminding myself to stay at the form level .

While learning the patterns I can't help feeling so much gratitude. We are unbelievably lucky to have access to so much precious and incredible arts. I thought of how difficult it must have been for students in the past who want to learn these great arts from a great master. What they would do and give for such an opportunity. Then I thought of how easy it is for us today. I feel so spoilt .

I hope to honor past and present masters with diligent practice to master the gems they have chrystalized, and then to pass these arts on to deserving students for their own prosperity as well as the prosperity of the art.

Thank you Sigung, thank you Anthony Sisook, thank you Markus Sisook, thank you Robin Sisook for such a golden opportunity.

          With my very best wishes

          Martin

Having trained the Wing Choon and experiencing the effectiveness and simplicity of single tiger and cup fist I can see how effective this set will be in both combat and force training.

It may be the photos but is Sigung using shifting footwork and stances to deliver stopping strikes from the side. The photos so far look like sink away from strikes and deliver powerful finishing strikes, if opponent shifts or moves back step though, chase, control the bridge and strike. If opponent counters, shift back, grip, finishing strike.

If developing of force is one of the major components of this set, instead of speed, then it would be effective at felling larger and powerful opponents. Simply avoid or lean on attack from opponent and counter straight through the gap created, under or over their attack or bridge.

              Looks good Robin

                A gentle warning

I started learning the Iron Wire set earlier at the form level.
                - Please do not continue this. Sifu's specific instruction to those attending the Iron Wire course in Finland was NOT to practise the set from videos beforehand.

The Iron Wire set is high level chi kung, and it is easy to practise it wrongly. There are not many movements on the set, so it will be no problem to learn it all at the course; at the course, you will also learn how to perform it safely in form as well as chi kung levels.

Next monday I'll be posting a separate Iron Wire course thread, and I meant to include this recommendation to all participants there.

Thank you for providing the opportunity to do so here!

                Best wishes,

                  Dear Markus Sisook,

Thank you for the advice above. I was learning the Iron Wire set yesterday just before my post. Given your advice above, I will of course follow it . Thank you.

Robin Sisook, I would love to see more photo and pattern names of the Triple Stretch set.

                    Hidden Footwork

To add more to pictures I believe there is some hidden techniques in the footwork to enable the attack to take full advantage of the defender and finish with one strike (given enough internal force):

It is known as “kiu loi kiu seung gwo, ma lai ma faat biu”, which means “bridge-come-bridge-above-travel, horse-come-horse-express-shoot”.

This might sound like nonsense to many people who don't understand Chinese or stances. Figuratively, the saying means that when an opponent attacks, “lean” your arm against his attacking arm and counter-attack. When he moves in with his stance, you move swiftly into his stance to put him in an awkward position to defend.

Suppose an opponent attacks with a right “Black Tiger Steals Heart” in a left Bow-Arrow Stance, which is a mid-level punch representing almost any attack. Instead of moving away or blocking head-on, “lean” your left “Single Tiger” at a left False-Leg Stance on his right attacking arm, and immediately move your left leg forward into a left Bow-Arrow Stance in such a way that your left leg “hooks” his left leg, and your left knee presses at his left knee, making it difficult for him to move forward or retreat, and simultaneously drive your right “Black Tiger” into his heart.

This technique is simple and profound. Executed by a skillful exponent, it is a combat-ending move.

Look forward to seeing some more Robin

                    Best wishes

                      Spot On!

                      Hello Brothers,

Tim, excellent descriptions of applications of those sequences. What you are describing is precisley how a Master can use a decepetivley 'Simple' sequence to a very profound level.

You can be assured there will be plenty of those moments on the course!

OK, I in the next three days I will be giving you access to pictures of every pattern in the 'Hoong Ka Triple Stretch Set' !

But before that I will post some short passages that accompany the pictures.

Again this short extracts will serve to inform us all more about this special set.

Here is the first of the extracts.

In Uncle Righteousness school, the Triple Stretch Set is usually, and colloquially, refered to as 'Hundred and Eight'. This is because Shaolin sets are often classified into three types according to the length of the set measured in the number of patterns, namely Thirty Six, Seventy Two and Hundred and Eight.

                      Sifu

Are you as suprised as I am that the set is so long?!?!

Below, 'Taming Tiger with Beads' from the Triple Stretch set

I do not know yet how many patterns the full version of Siu Lim Tou has (I'll count them), but with 108 patterns at your disposal you can be sure that this is a set to cover many eventualities and styles. It will also give plenty of opportunity to build force.

Of course 1 pattern used well can also cover many eventualities if the footwork is good and the skill. What will be interesting is to see which of the patterns would be considered finishing moves, which would be taming, opening and which patterns flow to another to finish a fight.

As we know Shaolin Kung Fu is not to look pretty, even though it does sometimes, it is meant to be effective, so hidden in these 108 patterns will be many secrets.

Lets see what our brothers and sisters have discovered so far.

                        Best wishes

OOf. 108......But, I'm guessing that a significant amount of these patterns are repeated, or maybe the same techniques are used in slightly different ways over several sequences.

"Then how could chi kung overcome diseases where the cause is unknown or when there is no cure? The question is actually incorrect. The expressions "the cause is unknown" and "there is no cure" are applicable only in the Western medical paradigm. The expressions no longer hold true in the chi kung paradigm. In the chi kung paradigm the cause is known, and there is a cure."

Yes, Shaolin Kung Fu is like a chess game, a complete system with the means to cover everything (and then some). How lucky we are to have acces to all this material!!!

The course is going to be so much fun, looking forward seeing more.

                                More than 108!

                                Hehehehehe

If you think 108 patterns is a lot, wait until you read this next bit.

There are actually more than 108 patterns in the Triple Stretch Set, though it is called Hundred and Eight. Actually there are about 236 patterns. It is probably the longest set in the repertoire of our school, and one of the most demanding to perform.

                                Sifu

THIS IS MONTSTER OF A SET, and a genuine part of Shaolin history.

Another pattern from Triple stretch, the whole series is coming in the next couple of days.
