- Baguazhang (Sifu mentioned on his website he may do this some day)
And there are courses/subjects I'd like to redo such as:
- Iron Wire
- Defence against armed attackers
- Defence against multiple attackers
And things I missed that I'd like to do such as:
- Taming the Tiger
And I just noticed these really nice courses in Portugal (too late for me to join them) on my favourite subjects:
- Taijiquan against other martial arts
- Shaolin Kungfu against other martial arts
Over the last couple of months I've been exchanging emails with Anthony K as we plan for Sifu's visit in November by discussing courses. I mentioned that a course in sitting meditation conducted by Sifu would be the #1 course I could ask for. Well, before I knew it I got to enjoy this with Sifu last month in London during the Zen course.
"Ask and you shall receive" is a powerful principle.
Dear Family,
If I considered only myself, the courses I would like to attend the most would be:
The 12 exercises of Sinew Metamorphosis
The Iron Wire Set
Courses I would love to attend in the future would be:
The Small Universe
"The Essence of Shaolin" or "Dragon Strength"
"Fifth Brother Eight-Trigram Long Pole" or the Guan Dao
Tiger Claw Training/ 72 Qin-Na Course
I also want to thank again both Anthony-ies for their efforts in coordinating courses in US.
Yours truly,
Ray
"Om"
I pay homage to all the great masters of the past and the present
To answer Siheng Piti's question about the reason behind:
I have always been very interested in the Art of Lightness. When watching a movie when I was in my teens I always knew this excisted.
When I started practising Chi Kung in this great school I always actually hoped this Art was still alive!
So yes, after reading that Sifu might consider incorporating it in our school is very exciting news! I would love to see such a course the most
My first choice is to attend the Intensive Chi Kung Course when it's next offered, however it would be a dream come true if Sifu offered the Intensive Taijiquan Course!
After I take the Intensive Chi Kung Course my second choice would be the regional Taijiquan courses.
Ok I have a new favourite having just read this in the latest q+a which answers something I have wondered for some time:
"So Hark Fu, which means "So the Black Tiger", was not his real name, which I do not know. He was quite dark in complexion, and expert in the Tiger Style of Southern Shaolin. His style is now known as Hark Fu Moon, which literally means "Gate of the Black Tiger". It uses a lot of Tiger Claws and is similar to Hoong Ka Kungfu."
Hmmm interesting! Well I have no idea therefore from my perspective at this stage it might be or it might not!
I.e. Taming the Tiger could be a very 'Tiger' set... or it could be the opposite it may include moves mainly intended to 'Tame' the moves of a Tiger style!
And it may be related to Tiger Style... or it may not be!
Your opinion would be more informed - what do you think, having learned the Taming the Tiger set?
All I can say is that having watched you perform it its definitely one of my favourite sets sets I've seen!
For me the courses I would most like to see are Dragon Strength and Art of Lightness. I am also very interested in learning the art of Dim Mak and having the skills to fight multiple opponents. Mind you all these are just for fun in the grand scheme of things. I am very fortunate to live in a law abiding society where it is unlikely I will require the use of these arts. The only art I feel I need is our Patriarch Zen as it is the means in which I will be permitted to emancipate myself from my prison. Don’t get me wrong I have grown to love my prison and it is all thanks to my wonderful Sifu, but it is still no comparison to the love of God. Ironically I suppose, the more I think about it or the more I covet it, the more I trap myself in the prison in which I seek to escape. So I suppose the best thing is to announce my interest in being part of a course should Sifu decide to teach one, then forget about it and practice diligently what my beloved Sifu has been so kind to teach me. It is important for me to remember that Sifu knows best and when I am ready the Tao will provide the means of my emancipation.
What course would you like to see next year at the Summer Camp?
Hello Everyone,
Since spring 2010, I have been focussing on One Finger Shooting Zen as my main force building exercise. That said, a little voice just popped into my head saying that I also do a load of other stuff too . But One Finger Shooting Zen is still my main force training exercise.
I realise in recent months that although I have been practicing One Finger Shooting Zen every day since joining Shaolin Wahnam, and started focussing on it (in place of Golden Bridge) as my main force training exercise in Spring 2010, I have actually never learned this great art directly from Sigung before. Therefore it is my wish for there to be a One Finger Shooting Zen course at the UK Summer Camp this year.
On the subject, I love the following quote from Sigung on One Finger Shooting Zen:
Now you are able to share an important story Grandmaster Wong has told many of his inner-chamber disciples. When he first learned from Grandmaster Ho Fatt Nam, the third generation-successor from the southern Shaolin Temple, Grandmaster Ho said:
“Many people say that they learn kungfu (meaning “force training”), but what they actually learn is just quan-fa (meaning “combat techniques”). Now you learn two of the best kungfu in Shaolin, namely One-Finger Zen and Tiger Claw.” This was when Grandmaster Ho taught Grandmaster Wong “One-Finger Shooting Zen”.
