Qiflow-Triple Stretch Method-12 Sinewmetamorphisis-Bone Marrow Cleansing-Zen Mind in Qi Gong
Dear Anthony,
I asked Sifu about that and as far as I can remember the following answer was presented:
The 18 Lohanarts are a evolution a development of the 18 Lohanhands. The 18 Lohanhands in their development created the fundament of Kung Fu. In this development also the aims and objectives of the monks changed accordind to their training. It became more and more like that monks needed more for their needs, meaning Kung Fu. So it turned out that the 18 Lohanarts developed as a kind of specific internal force training for the monks.
the 18 Lohanarts were not exclusively thought or trained by the Praying mantis practitioners. It was more an overall force training for all monks irrespective of the style which was trained.
Now for the question of is it now Qi Gong or Kung Fu? I think it's still both Qi Gong and Kung Fu. whereas the exercices are meant to train specific force training, they are also have their applications, some of them at least.
What is interessting is that, some of the exercises use Fa Jing.
Well that's what i know for now, but I shall keep you for sure updated....

Now this execise may as well as others offer both, a very nice Qi Gong execise, as well as a very nice Kung Fu pattern with many possible applications.

Dear all,
That was the last installment for the time beeing about the 18 Lohanarts and Shaolin Praying Mantis Kung Fu.
Tomorrow we will catch Sifu from the Airport and move towards Bern. I am sure some of us will find some time to share some experiences as well as some happenings.
We will for sure try to get some useful video accounts which Sifu will post afterwards.
Happy training to all,
Roland.

Dear all, Dear Anthony Siheng,
I shall share an explanation which I can underline from direct experience:
We went through the first serie of the 18 Lohanarts. As stated before the 18 Lohanarts are evolved from the 18 Lohanarts. Generally speaking, if you look at the exercises by themselves you can put them into the class of Qi Gong exercises.
If you compare them directly with the 18 Lohanhands they may be more Kung Fu like exercises. Of course we know, that all our Qi Gong is Kung Fu, Kung Fu is Qi Gong. At the end Qi Gong is Kung Fu and Kung Fu is Zen.
When we look at the level of cleansing, both Sets may offer a excellent Way to overcome diseases. If look at both Sets closer, the 18 Lohanhands in this case may be more cost time effective than the 18 Lohanarts. One may also use the 18 Lohanarts for this purpose, but it may be simply just less effective allthough one may achieve the same results at the end.
Then there is another interessting point worth to mention:
The 18 Lohanarts are quite different to Golden Bridge One Finger Zen or Iron Wire for example! Why? Those execises are specialised force training methods, whereas the 18 Lohanarts offer a more holistic approach.
But at the end if One wants to specialise in a certain feature or force or skill, then he may choose a specific exercise from the whole Set out of it.
There is an exercise called Big Bird Spreads Wings. if One wishes to enhance his palmstrikes internally, he may choose only this exercise and perform it many times with gradual progression.
There is an interessting exercise called Double Hooks Hanging on the Wall. If One wishes to enhance his hooking skills and internal force he probably trains this one more often. That said this exercise is very very powerful and generates a lot of Internal force. It's easy to perform it incorrectly and Sifu told a story of a Master he met, performing this exercise and who had serious health problems.
Keep you updated,
Best regards,
Roland.

Thank you so much for the photos and explanations Siheng Roland. And Sifu really is glowing! . I wish I could be there. I hope you're all enjoying yourselves.
We are all amazed at how incredible the 18 Lohan Arts are. We are all laughing in amazement when we perform them. Of course, we have a good foundation so that we can feel the essence quite quickly. When I have more time I will make a post about this.
It was a fantastic first course day yesterday. As has been mentioned by Sifu (Roland) and Anthony Sipak, the 18 Lohan Arts really are incredible. Several of them are seamingly simple movements, yet generate such a special chi flow and amazing amoung of internal force. And we haven't done all of them yet .
