The masters are right/genius/meticulous
Context: I am preparing for an intensive Kungfu Course with Sigung Wong in the future, so I am preparing in the manner that he
explained in "How to Plan a Training Schedule." I am using the book "The Art of Shaolin Kung Fu" to learn and practice forms and
stances and I will look at the website to be familiar with the 16 basic combat sequences(when I feel that I am able to move comfortably
and with agility in stances, properly stay in the correct stance form well{paying attention to proper balance and weight distribution} and
can use the basic hand forms/techniques well). I know that this is a very poor alternative to having a master and I am aware that there
could be blockages and mistakes in my movements and forms, but i hope to see Sigung Wong for a course,so I have a hope that any
gaps that I have in training will be filled and any mistakes corrected. If i am unable to see him next year for whatever reason, I'll either
discard my training to focus on what I DO know and what I was taught(chi Kung) or hopefully visit a Sifu that is here in the States(if
accepted as a student).
I am practicing the 8 basic hand techniques(Black Tiger Steals Heart,Single Tiger Emerges from Cave,Poisonous Snake Shoots
Venom,Golden Dragon Plays With Water,Golden Star at Corner, Immortal Emerges from Cave,Precious Duck Swims Through Lotus,
False-leg Hand Sweep) and the 5 basic stances(horse stance, bow and arrow stance,single-leg stance,four-six stance and unicorn stance).
I am also practicing the Chi Kung that Sifu Blohm taught me before practice.
Revelation: The masters knew what they were doing. I can not yet apply anything i learned into combat, but from what i see, it is amazing
the advantages you recieve when you use stances and forms more than just untrained street-fighting,when you have mastered them.To
me,for example, the form Black Tiger Steals Heart can generate a lot of power and I finally understand the kung fu adage "the roots are in
the legs, expressed through the thighs, controlled by the waist and is sent out through the fingers." When stepping in to do the form, my
back leg bends and my abdomen sinks down a bit. Then as I stabilze for the attack, my knee straightens, my back leg's thigh straightens, my waist turns almost by force and my hand shoots out like an arrow. And this was with no internal force, just mechanics.I can only imagine the power of that punch with internal force behind it. I can do that only because of the way the stances are.
My legs are sore from practice, which led me to another revelation. This is why masters wanted their students to practice stances; to gain
stronger bases/legs and large amounts of internal force. It was a 2 for 1 deal with the horse stance...proper practice lead to stronger legs
and more internal force. The weaknesses I have with moving in stances are because I don't practice stance training, I feel that way very
much.My thighs hurt, my ankles hurt and my knees used to hurt, until I started to move properly in the stances(or more proper than
before).I mean soreness by they hurt. It's like seeing the truth come alive when practicing these movements.
Experiencing this is exciting to me.So far, I have been practicing for 1 month and at the beginning of next week( unless I feel I have to practice my stances more) I will practice Combat Sequence number 1.
And that is part of how I am spending my summer vacation.
Giving respect to Sigung Wong, Sifu Blohm and all other Shaolin Wahnam practicioners.
