  • Shaolin Wahnam Ten Tigers

    Dear Tournament Participants,

I hope I find you all well and happy and I hope your training is going as well as can be . Over three weeks ago I had no interest in participating in any martial arts tournaments of any kind. I have also never been to one neither (unless you count badminton tournaments which I was a veteran off in my teenage years and have a cupboard filled with trophies ). However, luckily for me I stumbled upon a conversation with some Shaolin Wahnam Kungfu brothers in London and the following morning, something just told me I should make the effort to participate in this tournament.

I then gave it serious thought for a few minutes then felt it was the right thing to do and that I would benefit much from participating in the tournament. I have been very excited about the whole thing ever since. It’s been over three weeks now since the decision and I feel I have reaped much benefit already, despite the fact that the tournament have not even started.

I really feel the tournament is a happy occasion which we should embrace with positive energy. It’s a great occasion to enjoy and learn from, to be another reason to focus on in our regular practice and to push our Kungfu forward. Therefore I would like to sincerely thank Sigung, Taisipak Kai and others such as George Sihing for being supportive of this wonderful occasion.

Going on any courses within Shaolin Wahnam, I am always very keen to share food, conversation and laughter with course participants. The Ten Tigers occasion is no different to me in that respect and this is one of the main reason I started this thread.

Myself and my Sisook (Paul aka Drunken Boxer in the forum) will be arriving in Frankfurt on Saturday 11th September at 16.45. We should be at Taisipak Kai’s Kwoon before 19.00 where we will be staying. I would love to meet up and go for a meal with other course participants or any other Shaolin Wahnam family members that evening if you are available. Therefore if you are able to join me and my Sisook for dinner, please be around the Kwoon around 19.00. No need to confirm. We’ll see who’s there at the time then just go. Please note that I myself may also be delayed by my travel so just go if I am not there. If we miss each other, there is always Sunday Lunch .

I would like to wish all participants all the very best with your training and for the tournament. May you achieve what you aim to achieve with your training and in the tournament. May your training and participation in the tournament be filled with much success, fun, laughter and happiness along the way.

    With my very best wishes

    Martin

    Dear Siheng Martin,

Beautifully put. I'm also very excited to go for the Tournament, as I feel that it collectively push our limits, since there is so much we can learn from ourselves and each other on these ocasions.

I will be arriving on Saturday, unfortunately after 19h I think, but I'm sure we'll meet along the way

I would also like to share your appreciation and thank everyone that is involved in the Tournament, either in organization or participating.

    See you all soon.
    Best wishes for all

      Dear MPing,

It will be lovely to meet you . I look forward to sharing some food, fun and laughter with you and others, which can of course happen on the Lei Tai too (except the food bit as I am not planning on taking my cup of tea onto the Lei Tai hehe ).

Wishing you all the very best with your preparation.

      Best wishes

I just saw that Sifu started posting some of the tournament videos on the front page! Congratulations to all who participated!

Now that the tournament has been completed, I was curious how winners were determined?

I'm also happy for the participants! I wonder if any instructors also took part in the tournament?

Btw. Could somebody please post the rules of the tournament? From what I see in the video-clips it looks like the point-system is used.
Also will there be a DVD-version released for it? It could become a very good resource of education for every student.

It wasn't - it was full contact except for certain vital spots. If you could show that you could have struck a vital point (and strike with force, not just touching) then that would be enough to win. At the same time you had to show enough control not to actually injure the "opponent" - personally I think that's the harder part...

                        Dear all

Woot, the videos are so awesomely inspiring^^!
I must agree with Sije Andrea and say, that, after reading the stories so far, everybody seemed to be a winner! Because hey, no injuries?
                        Way to go!

I must admit that I was rather rooting for Paul in the last video (sorry, dear Roland of Netherlands), because I met him personally and he's awesome, so: Gooo, Paul=)!

But of course I would've wished a victory to every single participant.
I'd like to think that everybody who is good enough to stand a fighting chance in this tournament IS a winner already.

Warm greetings and congratulations to all of you!

Huge congratulations to the top ten fighters and to all those who took part and organised the event.

I feel very proud to be part of this school which 'practices what it preaches' - full contact competition undertaken with traditional form and great skill

Also, if I had known Paul was there I would have rooted for him too!

                            WSS to all,
