  • Hellsviking saying hello

    Hi Everyone & Shaolin salute,

My name is Erik. I use to do Wu-Shin Chi-Dao. Wu-Shin Chi-Dao basically is mixed traditional martial arts for self development. External, internal systems and mainly Japanese weapons taught.

I now "play" Bjj, muay thai and MMA, which has been a wild learning curve.

I know a guy that trained a lot with Sifu Wong. He taught me a few things, which I practise and enjoy very much. Unfortunately he stopped training with Sifu Wong because the training made him sick, but that's another story.

I'm interested to share and learn from this kwoon forum.

    Shaolin salute
    Erik

Hello Erik, and welcome to the forum! I'm looking forward for your contributions.

    - Sounds like your friend practised wrongly. Practising Wahnam chi kung and kungfu is very safe and very beneficial, although you have to follow your Sifu's instructions to the letter.

If you stray from the instructions, it's possible to develop harmful effects.

On the other hand, if you practise correctly and consistently, you'll get wonderful benefits.

    Best wishes,

I don't think he did anything wrong, being a qualified instructor. He had a Wahnam school in Cape Town. I think the training somehow didn't agree with him. During one of the courses with Sifu Wong, he had to sit out several times.

He taught me and I'm getting good results.

        Hi Erik,

Welcome to the forum. Was that John who taught you?

It's a pretty simple equation. Practice qigong correctly = get healthier. There are, however, waves growing pains that good students go through. Maybe that's what your friend experienced?

On the other hand, if it wasn't a grown pain, then he absolutely was doing something wrong. There's no such thing as the training "not agreeing" with someone. Not everyone has the wherewithal to practice regularly (or correctly), but if they do, they get positive results.

This isn't a blame thing. By identifying the mistakes, we can correct the problems, and then the person can start getting great results. Simple.

        All the best,
        Sifu Anthony Korahais

          Hi Antonius,

It was John. I didn't do actual classes.

I'm not entirely sure of his story, but I don't think it was "growing pains". I know that he was a student of Sifu Wong for many years. He had problems in varying degrees throughout, which Sifu Wong was aware of.

Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that he stopped. Was part of the story.

Tell John I say hello. I wondered what happened to him. I don't know the whole story either, but I still stick by the equation that I put forth. If John got sick, then he was doing something wrong. It's too bad that he never figured out what it was, and that he had to stop practicing.

The are a few ways that chi kung can make someone seemingly sick. It can cleanse out stuck toxins, pathogens, etc, causing a resurgence of old symptoms. It can cleanse out stuck emotions, causing emotional volitility. Or it can "uproot" an illness, causing various growing pains. All of these things are actually signs of progress.

On the other hand, if someone is truly getting sick as a result of practicing chi kung, then he is doing something wrong. Period. I hate to be such a stickler here, but it's important for you to understand this point, which is why I keep making it. There really isn't any argument. It would be like trying to argue with the law of gravity.

In any case, I'm glad that you're enjoying your practice.

If I see him I will, but haven't seen him for about two years.

I remember John very well. It was John who helped me "survive" my first intensive Kung Fu Course. If you do see him, please also send him my best.

I know a bit more about John's issues. Suffice to say he stopped practicing for particular reasons. And these reasons most likely also had something to do with his issues. So, in this respect, Anthony is absolutely right.

John's a great guy, so let's wish him well and not delve into his personal situation.
