  • Active Meditation: Perfect for modern day People

In the contemporary world, people are very busy in their hectic work life and as a result they hardly spend any time with themselves. In other words, they don’t have any time to look after their mind, body and most importantly their soul. Heeling of soul is very important for everyone because soul gets hurt whenever someone performs any act of cruelty or something which is against spirituality. The only way to heal your soul is through meditation which perhaps can be performed in several ways. Nowadays active meditation which was introduced by famous spiritual teacher named Rajneesh Osho is gaining great importance.

Active meditation is easy to perform as compared to traditional meditation technique which involves breathing exercises. Active meditation constitutes several activities which are tantamount of celebrating an event such as a birthday or a wedding party. It involves every activity which can be related to environment of celebration such as dancing, singing, listening to music, clapping and laughing. Moreover, person learning these techniques are not required to sit in a stationary position or move to an isolated place to learn meditation. You can learn active meditation by join their meditation center or through an online course offered by their institution.

    Zen Lineage

    Dear rajneeshosho,

Thank you for your interest in the spiritual health of our students and guests.

Interestingly, the term you use to describe your practice, "active meditation" is also a very accurate way to describe our own Shaolin arts. Like you, we also understand the spiritual benefits of "celebrating...dancing, singing, listening to music, clapping and laughing." You might be interested, or even surprised, to know that we practice Zen meditation which Osho practiced and esteemed so highly.

Perhaps as a start I wonder if you might be able to tell us about your lineage in Zen.

Looking Forward to a Fruitful Exchange,

      Restore your mind with Meditation

Our mind is something which can be easily influenced by surroundings, other people, circumstances and whatever. Once your mind is lured or manipulated by something unholy you are likely to suffer. This is because your mind is capable of taking charge of you and in such a scenario you tend to become his slave by behaving in a way what your minds commands you to. To stop this one must restore his or her mind to its initial state which is divine in nature. This is possible by doing meditation. Meditation is effective in cleaning your mind of all the dirt in the form of negative and inhumane thoughts.

There are various ways to learn meditation one of which is active meditation which was designed by Osho keeping in mind the hectic work and family life of modern people. Under active meditation technique as the name suggest a person can remain active by indulging in activities like singing in group, making humming sounds while breathing, listening carefully to this sound, laughing with joy and happiness and crying to get rid of all your pains. In short Osho intends to create an environment of celebration to generate positive energy excellent for universal healing.

        Dear Osho Disciple,

Thanks for your description of Osho's teachings. In some respects your practice sounds quite similar to ours: using meditation to purify the mind, laughing and crying to cleanse the emotions, using a meditative mind in all situations.

In other respects Osho's teaching seems to diverge quite dramatically from our Sifu's and our tradition's. For instance, you mentioned in your post that Osho designed this meditation. This contrasts quite sharply from our own philosophy which recognizes the vast superiority of making use of an inherited system. That is why I asked you about Osho's zen lineage. Perhaps you could clarify for us this point?

        In Good Faith,

          Transform yourself gradually through Meditation

The manner in which most of us lead our life it is very apparent that we need to go through a transformation. We need to change ourselves in terms of our attitude, habits, morale towards a task or work in which we indulge. These changes can be facilitated in our lives by doing meditation on regular basis. Meditation can be practiced in a number of ways. Most people are taught meditation using the infamous deep breathing exercise. Under this the person is asked to sit in a comfortable position with his or her eyes closed. Then the next step is to start breathing in and out slowly but deeply.

Here the key is to be able to concentrate on the coolness of air when it is entering your body and the warmness of air when it is leaving your body. This coolness and warmness can be felt at the throat and nostrils of your body. By doing to repeatedly you will be able to improve your concentration to a very good level. Another way to do meditation is by indulging in various dynamic activities like dancing, jumping, stretching your body parts and clapping. These activities are collectively known as active meditation techniques. They were introduced by Osho who was famous spiritual teacher from India.
