  • Ginger in summer and Green tea in winter

    Hi,

I have a question for those of you who are knowledgable in TCM. I generally drink a lot of ginger tea in the winter(~1/2 liter very strong tea in the morning), because of it's strong warming (yang) powers. And I drink a lot of green tea in the warmer months (+1 liter per day), as it is a strong healing plant, and is a cooling yin plant. I'm sure this is healthy.
Actually I don't do it just because it's healthy, I really like these teas.

What I'm not sure about is my practice of drinking close to no green tea in the cold, wet winter months, and drinking close to no ginger tea in the hot summer months.

Is what I'm doing correct, or should I continue to drink a little bit of green tea every day in the winter and ginger tea in the summer?

    Thank you for your help,
    Jim

    Hi Jimbeaux,

Is it crazy for me to say: "have whichever tea you like"?

I haven't had either kind of tea in months/years...

      Hi Jim,
I'm no expert but I have a little knowledge to offer. The way I understand it, it is good to drink green tea during the summer and ginger tea during the winter because of their counterbalancing effects (cooling/warming). Generally it isn't advisible to drink green tea during the winter and vice versa, but if you enjoy doing so, just practice your chi kung regularly and you'll be fine.
