Thank you for sharing the poem. I see it as a wonderful exposition of how universal spiritual cultivation is, and how many "different paths there are to the same mountain".
Do you know of any good Aikido Schools in Japan? I have one month left here, it might be fun to make some connections.

I found the answer to my own question, for anyone interested
this is the school that Ueshiba Sensei's Grandson runs. http://www.aikikai.or.jp/
I'm actually quite close, and will pay it a visit, but it is a bit too expensive
for my pocketbook right now.
My memory is very hazy and i cannot remember the context but i remember that Ueshiba Sensei saw points of light before the bullets came so he knew where they were going to go. I must read it again.
On a side note, i was given the book by an Aikido instructor - a colourful character who was once in the French Foreign Legion. He told me a story once where he was attacked by one of his fellow Legionnaires and was forced to retaliate. The outcome was that he ended up standing on one leg holding a door shut with one hand whilst 2 of his commanding officers tried in vain to open the door. He wasnt one to fabricate stories and at the time i listened to this incredulously. It makes sense to me now of course how he could do this - why he was standing on one leg i dont know - i never thought to ask
