  • Choy lee fut?

    Greetings all,

I have been reviewing some of the fist techniques demonstrated by Si Gung here.

    http://www.shaolin.org/video-clips-3.../overview.html

The style in which they are applied seems similar to Choy lee fut Kung fu.

Is Choy lee fut Kung fu basically a specialisation of this style?

    Thanks in advance

    Choy lai fut

    hey Rob ,
Choy lei fut is a southern style , and has mainly long range attacks for use against multiple targets , some of the techniques demonstrated by Sigung are used in Choy lei fut , the horn punch especailly and any of the circular attacks are most common , the leopard fist is very popular . Its a hard external style , I practised for about 18 months before joining Shaolin Wahnam , I really enjoyed it but lacked any internal aspect and unfortunatly any real combat application, I think and could be wrong here , that it is descended from the second southern shaolin temple . It uses mainly fist techniques
Is Choy lee fut Kung fu basically a specialisation of this style?
both styles share similar heritage and therefore similar techniques .
    Many happy blessings, chris

      Hi Rob,

Choy Li Fat is a southern Shaolin style, it has a big range of techniques and is mainly external. Some of the punches in the video clips by sifu you mentioned are typical of this style.
I was lucky to interchange techniques privately with one of the best masters of Choy Li Fut in Spain.
Although they have internal training too, the main methods are external, like wooden dummies for example. In other words, is different form our Wahnam Taichichuan and Shaolin, where everything´s internal. They normally practise the "internal" aspect apart (but they maybe some high level master who practises it as an internal art).
Unfortunately, many Choy Li Fut masters today use kickboxing in sparring.
Anyway, it is Shaolin style and well practiced is effective and beautiful.

      Greetings,

        Thanks again for the replies.

I am currently trying to apply these techniques in my `fun`sparring. Its enjoyable as they seem very flowing.
