Here's a quote from Hiroshi Motoyama's book Karma and Reincarnation Dr. Motoyama is a parapsychologist, Shinto priest and clairvoyant healer who's healed thousands of people through spiritual consultations.

A family is not a chance entity. Its members have normally known each other before, often many times...The parent/child connection manifests as one link in a long chain of ancestral karma that stretches back through time. Your link to your family allows you to be born into that specific line.

Dr. Motoyama writes about many cases where he had a spiritual consultation with a family where he saw a long line of family karma and could explicitly point out names of ancestors and actions in certain regions that were manifesting consequences today. The family would check historical records and the story would check out. I think this is one example that shows events of past lives do affect us today.

I think this discussion is taking us towards a "happy medium" between the LOA and karma, where they exist simultaneously. Although it does seem like the LOA can be included under the understanding of karma. Karma = cause and effect, LOA = your vibration (the cause) brings equal vibrations (the effect).

Another quote from Dr. Motoyama:

The self is a continuous phenomenon that is ruled by the laws of cause and effect, by karma. Every action causes a reaction...Although karma controls every aspect of life, it is important to realize that one is able to change his or her karma and to affect the way the past manifests in the here and now.

A fun book review

Thanks for posting that Drew, it is thought provoking.

Like I said just now, I have heard of Abraham talking about Soul Clusters or Families of Consciousness, but I don't recall the details. Perhaps this is simular to what Dr. Motoyama is talking about in Family Karma.

One part of this which I can feel nudging me to type further is that what ever we are asking for goes in to what is described as a vibrational escrow, where it is held and is available for you to manifest once you are aligned with it, but interestingly it is also available to anyone else who should also be aligned, not just in this life time, but in future ones also.

I wonder if that or another related detail could explain a past experience or event corelating to a future one.

Still, for just a book review, this thread has provided me with some fun theory to chew over

Glad you all are enjoying learning about Abraham.

One thought: Abraham says that before your birth you simply choose to be born in the circumstances that you are. This is really the same thing as saying that your karma has you be born in a certain set of circumstances, because it is all mind.

Also, I agree with Andy (I think it was) who said that the beauty of Abraham's message is that a person is never a victim. Their past vibration/karma may have brought them some undesirable situations, but you created all of it and in this powerful Now you can begin creating something new.

Also, Abraham also says that life is naturally good. Every ounce of your being is naturally well; your only job is to let go and allow the natural health, abundance and happiness.

I want to share with you all some results of my experiences with the Abraham-Hicks teachings that you may enjoy.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the posts in this thread. I want to offer some experiences because experience's are the most valuable lessons.

A while back I was creating my website to share my writings, my blogs, and my thoughts on the teachings of Abraham [Ask; It is Given; Allow... it is all Vibration, you don't necessarily Ask with your words. Enjoy.]. There was a nice woman from Australia I would chat with on IM sometimes who I met on a discussion forum and she really enjoyed my website and wanted to help me out with it. She helped me proof-read some stuff and generally we laughed and had fun. One night I was fully engrossed in my site, fully engrossed in passionate vibrations toward it, enjoying it a ton; I thought to myself, "I should call up Paula (gf) and have her copy the glossary out of Ask and It Is Given [she had my copy] so I can use the info it for improving my website!" then I immediately thought, "that's ridiculous! silly me who the heck wants to write out a glossary???" So I let it go. The next day I wake up and my friend from Australia had spontaneously decided to "practice her typing" and type up a bunch of the glossary while I was asleep! I had not mentioned it to her WHATSOEVER. I had Asked and my vibration was pure enough for it to slip through a totally different way than I at first imagined it!

I have a ton of stories, but I thought I would share this one, because it shows we are all connected, and that thought and desire are powerful forces!

A genuine phenomenon

Something I'd like to add to this thread:

The Abraham material has been so useful for me that I went to an Abraham/Hicks workshop in London back in May in order to validate it further.

It was a large busy gathering of perhaps 200 people, a full lecture hall, representing a fair cross section of society.

The atmosphere was very good and all of the people had 'bright eyes'...similar to another gathering of like-minded people you may be familiar with in that respect....and the talks by Abraham-Esther were very positive and inspiring.

At one point the Abraham collective consciousness (as it describes itself) channelled a lot of energy through Esther for a visible demonstration...

....there were outright gasps as many people in the audience spontaneously developed the ability to see auras...in this case Abraham-Esthers very impressive one.

So, I can personally vouch for the quality of these books and if you havent read them, then I'd highly recommend.

I waved my hand about in the air but I didnt get a chance! There was some competition as you may well imagine.

What is interesting is that I did prepare a list of questions to ask beforehand...

....those questions were then answered in the course of the seminar (as answers to other peoples questions!).....

Well, that makes sense. And proves something they often say before such a gathering - that all your questions will be answered over the course of the seminar, through the unfolding of the answers given to the specific questions that ARE asked.

Speaking of asking and it is given...

A couple weeks ago I was expounding the virtues of butter to my family. I absolutely love butter. Soon after my "butter speech" I made a big food order sufficient for a couple of months. Being in Alaska we order the bulk of our food with a two week delay in shipping. To my recollection I ordered three of four pounds of butter.

I picked up 300 or so pounds of food yesterday in boxes, and in unloading it today my wife discovered a whole box of butter: 26 one pound boxes of butter.

On top of that, about a week ago my wife mentioned to our family that she loves ketchup and boy she misses it, and gosh is she looking forward to our food order arriving so we're back in the ketchup.

So guess what? 23 bottles of ketchup arrived, when I ordered one.

The rest of the order arrived completely as normal.
