  • Heart to heart Transmission

Back in 2004, when I read in the website that Sifu teaches his art by heart to heart transmisson, I could not imagine what it was all about. After returning from the Intensive Chikung Course in April 2005, I understood quite reasonably, but had not written it yet.

Now, after the second direct training with Sifu in last month Intensive Taijiquan Course, I try to share my happiness and experiences about this 'heart to heart transmission', especially inspired by the recent February 2006 Part 1 edition of Sifu's Questions and Answers Series. After reading the FAQ. it dawned on me that Sifu has taught us at the Spirit Level.

I remember quite well what we did on the first day when we performed 'Lifting the Sky' and on the second day while learning and practicing 'Carrying the Moon' of the Intensive Chikung Course in April, when Sifu transmitted the skill of 'tapping the energy from cosmos'. After bringing us to enter the tao with some simple movements, at the right timing and moment, I heard Sifu mentioned:
'Perform once or two times more of tapping the energy from cosmos, then stand still, think gently of your dantian, then do nothing and think of nothing'. Those are perhaps not the exact words that Sifu said, but something to that effect.

Because of Sifu's kind words at just exactly the right moment, I realized then that this was the right feeling or skill when I tap the energy from cosmos, a kind of confirmation of the skill that I was just capable of learning and practicing. How could Sifu be aware that at that right moment I was experiencing (I really was feeling and experiencing) taking the energy from the cosmos? That is an example of 'Heart to heart transmission'!

Another example was when we practiced 'Pushing Mountains' continued with 'Carrying Sun and Moon', when I felt energy accumulating at my arms and hands, Sifu mentioned something to the effect that the tension that I felt was not muscle tension, but chi accumulating. Other people might think that was a muscular tension, which has to be avoided. There and then I acquired the skill of not mistakenly feel and think about chi accumulating as muscular tension.

Perhaps another one of the most important aspects which were transmitted to me was the abililty to feel the inner peace; the peace and happiness that comes from inside- the true piece and harmony.

This I experienced again during the recent Intensive Taijiquan Course.
Again, at the right time and exact moment that I was beginning to feel it, came Sifu's confirmation words: "Now you feel the inner peace, which some people call returning to God, and some mention it as merging with the void, .... etc." How wonderful! Now I understand very well the meaning of Jesus saying: 'The Kingdom of Heaven lies inside your heart', even if I am not a Christian. In fact, different religions have not mattered to me long before I attended Sifu's course in April, but truely I must admit that Sifu confirmed it decisively. All religions have similar teachings about us and the Universe, only expressed differently because of various factors, including among other things the different times, locations, customs, tradition, and people. The essence is the same, and I am very grateful that I can understand, feel, and practice it in my life. This single gift has outpassed the worthiness of attending Sifu' course.

Thanks for joining me for this rather long post, I would post other things such as why sparring might help us in many ways of our lives, including the path to enlightenment, which I did not understand it, either, before the Intensive Taijiquan Course.

    With love,

    Joko

    Joko,

Thank you for sharing this wonderful inspiration. I've learned a lot from reading it, and it reminds me how lucky we are to have a Master who will share so much with us.

        a very touching experience

        fellows,

It is a very heartfelt experience to sense the 'electricity' in such a teacher wherver he may be. In his/her presence everything is so easy to remember and practice so it is a good thing to develop that quality in self to be self reliant and pass on the skills of such a teacehr. Just to calm our heart, we can pass on that electrical spark to change the other person even without their realization!

Part of the reason why we are here, is to share.

          Thank you Joko.

To add some comments, I'd have to say the biggest factor in my progress has been in my Sifu being kind enough to let all my training sessions be under him when we are in the same place. I sincerely don't think there is anything wrong with the heart to heart transmission model. I don't think it is a matter of having someone there to show you how to do things better. My teacher explains heart to heart transmission as a signal transferred from the Master to the student during practice. I think you need someone with similar abilities present for them to "rub off" on you.
