Dear Brothers, Sisters and those I dont know yet,
Have you ever heard of the Tai Chi Chuan pattern 'Grasping the Sparrows Tail?'
It is a series of fundamental Tai Chi movements that are common to all of the Major styles of Tai Chi Chuan.
Now here is the thing.
With these 'Basic' but profound movements it was said the Yang Lu Chan (1799-1872) a.k.a 'Yang the invincible' defeated all his opponents (I'm think some Shaolin masters were among them
) Grandmaster Yang lived in a time in China when a challenge match to the death would not have been uncommon, so his unbeaten record speaks volumes of how high level his skill must have been.
However, given the 'gentle' nature of these patterns, it is hard to envision how these simple looking movements could have so many uses in combat. Indeed until I began training with Sifu I was also at a loss as to how it could be done.
Also, even though these patterns are common to all of the Major Styles of Tai Chi Chuan, it is very hard to find any pictures or explanations of combat applications for these movements.
With this in mind I recently accosted my to Kung Fu brothers Jamie and Joshua when we were together in Malaysia and took some photos of various applications of the movements of 'Grasping the Sparrows Tail' I will be releasing them in article form in the coming weeks on my incredible website www.TaiChiChuanThailand.com
I will be showing three basic applications for each hand pattern, so thats 15 applications for 4-5 movements, and thats just some basic applications -in reality the amount of applications from these movements is almost limitless!
The first couple of Posts are now up, the first article with 'Juicy' applications in it was just posted today.
Ill be interested to here any of you comments
Wahnam Tai Chi guys.. have you got any other nice uses for the patterns you'd liked to share?

you can find the articles here
All the best
