  • SCK Book Testimonials Requested

    Dear Wahnam family,

I have been in contact with my printer and am planning to get another 200 copies of Shaolin Chi Kung (the book) printed up.

In order to help with my marketing and publicity I would be very grateful if you could help me.

If you have a copy of 'Shaolin Chi Kung - 18 Exercises To Help You Live A Longer, Healthier & Happier Life' and you enjoyed it, thought it was brilliant etc, then could you please let me know.

The more specific your testimonial the better e.g:

I found the p.e.r.f.e.c.t system really helped me to learn quickly how to structure my 15 minute practice session and start getting the benefits of Shaolin Chi Kung

    Is better than:

    This book is really great

Your testimonials will help me to introduce Shaolin Chi Kung to a wider audience. Either share your testimonials here, PM them to me or e-mail me.

Many thanks in advance to everyone who bought a copy of Shaolin Chi Kung and thank you to those who give a testimonial.

    Kindest regards

    Marcus

P.S I will be using your testimonial and name on selected marketing medias: internet etc. By giving me your testimonial you are agreeing to let me use it

Ah, I see I am the first. How nice and how honoured i am

This is a preliminary testimonial I wrote over lunch, and I will probably add to it after checking it for errors and thinking of new praises:

    **********************

I have nothing but the highest praise for this book. I was aware of the mammoth effort Marcus Santer Sifu had put in to write his book and had followed the progress of his work faithfully, but even I was amazed at how informative and helpful the final product turned out to be.

There are so many things that pleased me about this book that I took longer than expected to write this review. But here it is:

    1. The comprehensive treatment of all 18 Luohan Hands. It was not a simple rendition of the names of the patterns and the perfunctory picture you see in most books about qigong (whether in Chinese language texts or otherwise). I was most pleasantly to find not only clear and simple instructions, but also interesting nuggets of information like the alternative names of the patterns and a quick summary of their benefits.

    2. The photographs. I have seldom come across a book on any subject that used photographs to such effect. For someone who can already perform one or two of the patterns, it would be a piece of cake to learn the rest of the patterns just by looking at the photographs. The next closest alternative would have been a companion DVD. (The photographer Clare Bond must also be highly commended for her brilliant photography)

    3. The background chapters preceding the description of the patterns are a must-read. From the concise explanation of the theory of qigong in Chinese medicine and the route of masters to the aptly-named PERFECT system, I found myself glued to Marcus' words until the end. Every Shaolin Wahnam instructor has his or her own way and method of teaching qigong, but I found myself constantly taking leaves out of Marcus Sifu's book for my own understanding and teaching.

    4. The clear prose is something to behold. One would hardly expect such a practical instruction manual to be so riveting in style. As Marcus promises in his webpage, the book is easily understood and assimilated by even beginners. Even the instructions are not a word more than they have to be.

I wished I could have ordered enough books so that my own students can have a copy of Marcus Sifu's masterpiece. But the first edition was sold out before I could open my mouth to ask. I have read countless books on qigong in both English and Chinese, and except for my Sifu's works, I have not come across a better book on dynamic qigong patterns, be it Shaolin or any other school.

If there is one thing I did not like, it is the small font size. With the book being so un-put-downable, I wish the words had been nice and large so the entire reading experience would have been totally perfect.

Thanks for such a great book

        Siheng Marcus,

"Shaolin Chi Kung - 18 Exercises To Help You Live A Longer, Healthier & Happier Life" is one of my most-likely-to-be-off-the-shelf reference books. When not in use, your book sits in my library here in Alaska next to all of Sifu's books.

I referred to your book as a reference book: and yet that isn't completely right, either, as reference books have a stereotype as potentially stuffy. This is a fun book, too, filled with quotes from many Shaolin Wahnam students on what makes each pattern meaningful to them in particular.

I really appreciate how you have coupled written description of patterns with innovative time-lapse photography of some of Shaolin Wahnam's best models. I have used your book to both review known patterns and to learn new patterns.

I have leant my copy of "Shaolin Chi Kung - 18 Exercises To Help You Live A Longer, Healthier & Happier Life" to several friends. The one who was lucky enough to review your book while it was still in its first printing ordered his own copy immediately.

Honestly, while your book won't tell me how to go out and fix a car engine or understand all the buttons on a scientific calculator, the rewards of Chi Kung have allowed me to go further in my life than I could have guessed. I'm not kidding when I say that Chi Kung has helped me in such areas as learning to skateboard in mid-30s, executing complicated joinery as a finish carpenter, and overcoming mental blocks in learning diesel mechanics.

In short, "Shaolin Chi Kung - 18 Exercises To Help You Live A Longer, Healthier & Happier Life" has distilled an energy art that is well over 5,000 years old in a book that is in the spirit of Zen: simple (yet profound), direct, and effective. I cannot pass on high enough accolades.

I'll be purchasing a copy of the second printing so I can have a permanent copy for lending, and as one student's vote for the Kung Fu sequel!

My best to you, my Shaolin brother,

        Zach

            Dear Sipak Marcus,

'Shaolin Chi Kung - 18 Exercises To Help You Live A Longer, Healthier & Happier Life' is one of the most refreshingly accessible books I have read on a subject which to many seems inpenetrable. As a 'how-to' guide, I feel the book succeeds on all levels, whilst retaining an engaging flavour that makes me pick the book up even when not refering to it for purely practical purposes. The attention to detail on each of the patterns, and the listing of the specific benefits of each of them really gets me excited to try out a new pattern each time I read. Thank you for this excellent contribution to the practice and study of the incredible art that is Chi Kung.

Hope this helps, and also to see you soon,

            Best wishes,

            Max

              Marcus,

'Shaolin Chi Kung - 18 Exercises To Help You Live A Longer, Healthier & Happier Life' is a book I constantly refer to for my own practice, teaching my Chi Kung classes and for my Chi Kung healing practice. The clear, detailed description and innovate picture sequences for each exercise mean you can be certain each pattern is being done correctly. The explanation of the holistic benefits of Chi Kung and the thematic benefits of each exercise bring the theory of the Chinese medical model to life in an accessible and practical way.

                  Hey Marcus,
                  My testimonial will be:

                  Brilliant

Very Zen you think. More seriously I want to sit down and write one properly, but I am very limited for time right now as I am at work

'Shaolin Chi Kung - 18 Exercises To Help You Live A Longer, Healthier & Happier Life' is an excellent example of how to explain and transmit, incredibly profound skills using incredibly simple methods.

In my opinion, this book is a modern classic within it's genre.

                        Excellent book

                        Dear Sifu,

for me your book excels also in the department of "building correctly the knowledge".

With this phrase I mean that when someone builds a house with the correct way starts with the plans, digs the ground, puts the foundation etc just like this the way your book is written can help someone with no initial knowledge about chi kung at the end to be ready to perform correctly the 18 Lohan Hands as chi kung and not as physical exercise. It's a practical and methodical guide with the minimum words that are needed for a book like this .

Besides the way the photos are taken and as someone can see many dimensions it's a very clever way to help everyone . For example the pattern Carrying The Mountains has become my favorite this period .

I believe that if you promote it with the correct way (which unfortunately I do not know what this way is) it can be sold at least in 5 digit copies around the world .
                        With warm regards,
                        Charalampos Nikas
